H-beam is a section of H-shaped steel, also known as universal steel beam, wide edge (edge) I-beam or parallel flange I-beam.

H type steel is made of ordinary carbon steel and low alloy structural steel. It has a wide flange and no slope on the inner side of the leg, which is convenient for combination and connection with other components. Its section modulus is large, good characteristics, belongs to the economic profile, is the ideal building structure load-bearing skeleton steel. It has the advantages of strong bending resistance, simple construction, cost saving and light weight in all directions, and has been widely used. In multi-storey and high-rise steel structures, the amount of H-shaped steel often accounts for more than 40% of the total amount of steel. H steel hot rolled H steel and welded H steel two types.

The cross-sectional shape is similar to the capital Latin letter H of an economic section profile, also known as universal steel beam, wide edge (side) I-beam or parallel flange I-beam. The cross-section of H-beam usually includes two parts of the web and the flange plate, also known as the waist and the edge.

Features

The inner and outer sides of the flange of H-beam are parallel or close to parallel, and the flange ends are at right angles, hence the name parallel flange I-beam. The web thickness of H-beam is smaller than that of ordinary I-beam with the same web, and the flange width is larger than that of ordinary I-beam with the same height as the web, so it is also named wide-edge I-beam. Determined by the shape, H section modulus, moment of inertia and the corresponding strength are significantly better than the same single weight of ordinary I-beam. Used in different requirements of the metal structure, whether it is under bending moment, pressure load, eccentric load shows its superior performance, can be compared with ordinary I-beam greatly improve the bearing capacity, save metal 10% ~ 40%. H-beam has wide flange, thin web, many specifications and flexible use, which can save 15% ~ 20% of metal for various truss structures. Because its flange is parallel to the inner and outer sides, and the edge ends are at right angles, it is convenient to assemble and combine into various components, thus saving about 25% of the welding and riveting workload, greatly speeding up the construction speed of the project and shortening the construction period.
